The Asian Institute of Management publishes a study on French CSR in the PH

The Asian Institute of Management partnered with the Foundation of the French Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, France-Philippines United Action, to conduct a study on French Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in the country. The aim of this study was to highlight the different French CSR initiatives in the Philippines and an attempt at defining a “French way” of approaching CSR.

Indeed, while American companies have practiced Corporate Social Responsibility extensively over many years, it largely remains a new concept in the French business community. However, in a country prone to natural disasters and facing development issues such as high levels of poverty and inclusive growth, French companies in the Philippines are also looking to contribute and develop their own CSR identity.

Nine companies answered the questionnaire sent and agreed to sit down for an interview about their CSR projects and practices. The results have been assembled in a report which is now available for distribution.

The conclusion of the study is that the participating companies demonstrated the richness and diversity of projects and processes of CSR initiatives. It found that French CSR practice had common elements: (1) they were directly related to the company core business, (2) they tended to focus on community interaction between the organization—employees and families – and the company identified communities, (3) they seemed to respond to country development needs—such as disaster relief or energy insufficiency, and (4) they highlighted an overriding concern for sustainability— through various environmental projects.

The FP-UA Foundation would like to thank the nine companies that took time to participate in this study and discuss their CSR contributions; namely Anxa, AXA, Delfingen, the Fruit Garden, Jewelmer, Michelin, Pernod Ricard, Schneider Electric and STMicroelectronics.

We would like to also thank Professor Roman of AIM for leading this study that gives the business community the opportunity to showcase the CSR involvement of the French community in the Philippines.
